The Unit Secretary – Loved by All, Hated by All

Starting as a fresher to NASA, being the first UD of my college while winning trophies in the very first year, we grew into hosting an Annual Convention. The Usec part of me began at my first Council Meet at SMVDU, Jammu.

The best thing about NASA for any Usec is the friendships they gather — with enormous support and love, without competition. I still remember losing all my luggage on the way to Jammu while applying for my college membership, yet I went ahead. With the only available laptop backstage and slow internet in the mountains, I presented a single proposal for both membership and Annual Convention bids, which was approved by my Director, Prof. Jaffer AA Kahn. That won us the bid, and we moved forward to host the 57th Annual NASA Convention, Transformation.

Our team was: Waqar Abid (President), Dileep Konala Reddy (Secretary), Murari Kumar Raja (Treasurer), Vivek Venkateshappa (Advisor), Prasanna Gopal (Convenor), six Zonal Presidents, and myself, the Usec.

It is true — a Usec will be loved and hated by all. The path to convince everyone is rough, tough, and hard to achieve. Director, Principal, HOD, our own delegates, NASA Council, and the college management team — they never all agree. With countless speakers, delegates crossing boundaries, and endless logistical challenges, we hosted the convention on January 25–28, 2015. Despite fights, misunderstandings, and constant negotiation, we made it happen — and my Zone-6 Usecs were there at every step.

I take this platform to thank each and every one of you for your efforts toward the convention and wish the best for future host colleges and upcoming events.

Being a Usec is never easy, but it is an amazing role filled with effort and learning. NASA teaches you so much, leaving you with memories that never end. I still remember the day we launched the NASA India website during our FCM — the height it has reached today is truly remarkable. NASA is growing at a rapid pace, and today it stands as a platform where every student architect merges under one name.

With warm wishes,

Ar. Anupooja Manivannan
