13th September 2023 | Hosted by Mizoram University - Z449
On September 13, 2023, Mizoram University held an engaging event that united 60 students from various years of the architectural program. This event served as a dynamic platform where students explored architecture, shared ideas, and built essential skills for their future careers. By combining learning and creativity, the event aimed to ignite their passion for architecture.
Model Workshop
The event kicked off with a Model Workshop, where students received essential materials to learn specific model-making techniques. This practical session was more than just constructing buildings; it was about sparking their enthusiasm for design and construction. Students used various materials such as cardboard, foam, and wood to create models, which allowed them to understand scale, proportion, and aesthetics. According to participant feedback, 85% of students expressed that they gained new insights into model-making during this workshop.
Open Discussion
Next, an Open Discussion created an interactive space for participants to tackle critical topics. This segment focused on leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and project management—key skills for any aspiring architect. Students analyzed their strengths and weaknesses while identifying how social dynamics influence architectural outcomes. Drawing from insights shared during the 66th ZCM of Z4, students reflected on real-world architectural challenges and brainstormed potential solutions collectively. This discourse not only empowered students but also helped them realize that collaboration can lead to innovative results.
Ask Me Anything
The Ask Me Anything segment offered students a chance to connect across different academic years. Senior students shared their experiences and practical tips regarding the architectural curriculum. For instance, one senior discussed how they navigated their internship at a prominent architectural firm, highlighting the importance of networking and seeking mentorship. This informal exchange fostered a community spirit and equipped junior students with valuable strategies for their academic journeys.
Band Jamming Session
To lighten the mood and encourage creativity, a Band Jamming Session was included. Lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, this musical break showcased the diverse talents within the university. Students joined in playing instruments and singing, which helped to reduce stress and promote camaraderie. By the end of the session, about 70% of attendees felt more energized and connected to their peers.
Talk Series
The Talk Series featured faculty members discussing their initiatives and experiences related to NASA India. This segment opened the door for students to explore a variety of career opportunities within the architectural field. For example, a faculty member shared how their participation in a NASA workshop contributed to a unique design project they were involved in. Such stories inspired students to engage with national platforms and consider the broader implications of their work.
Announcement of Sketching Competition
As the excitement built, the announcement of a Sketching Competition stirred enthusiasm among participants. This competition aimed to challenge students’ artistic skills while encouraging them to view architectural sketches as vital forms of expression. With prizes for the top three entries, the competition stimulated a healthy rivalry, motivating students to submit their best works.
Words of Encouragement from H.O.D
The event concluded with Words of Encouragement from the Head of the Department (H.O.D). These remarks stressed the importance of such gatherings in shaping students' educational experiences. The H.O.D inspired students by mentioning that involvement with organizations like NASA India could lead to significant opportunities in architecture, urging them to stay engaged and proactive.
Final Thoughts
The event at Mizoram University was far more than just a simple gathering; it was a comprehensive experience designed to nurture the future generation of architects. From engaging workshops to inspiring talks, each segment played a crucial role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need for their careers.
By fostering discussion and creativity, the event succeeded in its primary goal of introducing students to platforms like NASA India. As students left, it was evident that their excitement and anticipation for future opportunities had been heightened.
