TATTVA REKHA - Talk Symposium

The Talk Symposium TATTVA REKHA was a discussion about the cross-sectoral model and its relevance in architecture and urbanisation, along with conceptualization—two fundamental themes in architectural education and practice.

This session was designed to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application, inspire innovative ideas, enhance design thinking, and motivate students to explore beyond traditional limits, offering a meaningful and inspiring learning experience.

Inaugural Session

The event began with a welcome address by Amulya(B.Arch, 2nd year, UVCE), followed by an invocation song by Navyashree(B.Arch, 2nd year, UVCE) setting a positive tone for the symposium.

Keynote Address

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. P. Pavan Kumar, HOD and Chairman, Z502, Department of Architecture, UVCE. He spoke on the cross-sectoral model and its relevance in architecture and urbanization, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches and real-world applications.

The event was further enriched by addresses from,

Their interaction with the Delegates by highlighting the importance of leadership, academic excellence, and active participation in professional and student-led initiatives. They also had a talk about education system in India vs USA.

They were also proud about Dr. P. Pavan Kumar and his initiative – Tattva Rekha. They also spoke about the change in their life that Dr. P. Pavan Kumar brought, his support and guidance for their higher education abroad.

They also interacted with the delegates during the Q&A session which where participants actively engaged with the speaker and clarified their academic and research-related queries.

Cross-Sectional Model & Conceptualisation

Introduction

A cross-sectional model is a physical or graphical representation that cuts through a building vertically to reveal internal spatial relationships, structural systems, levels, and services. It is one of the most powerful tools to communicate conceptual ideas, because it shows what plans cannot—height, volume, light, and sectional experience.

A cross-sectional model is a scaled cut model where a portion of the building is removed to expose:

^●        Floor-to-floor heights

^●        Structural elements (beams, slabs, columns)

^●        Vertical circulation (stairs, ramps, lifts)

^●        Spatial hierarchy (double height, mezzanine, etc.)

^●        Light and ventilation paths

Cross-sectional models are not just representation tools—they are thinking tools. They bridge the gap between concept and reality, helping architects visualize space, structure, and experience simultaneously. A well-developed sectional model strengthens design clarity and communicates ideas effectively in academic and professional practice.

Keynote Speech Session

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. P. Pavan Kumar, HOD and Chairman,

Z502, Department of Architecture, UVCE.

The delegates found the session very informative and were very impressed with the approach of Dr. P. Pavan Kumar towards designing and conceptual development. The Unit Secretaries, Unit Designees and the delegates from different Architecture colleges all over Banglore and Mysore attended the session. They were also pleased to invite Dr. P. Pavan Kumar to their college for talk sessions.

Lunch

Food arrangements were done by the student Council of Dept of Architecture UVCE.

The Rock Garden and the Senate Hall used were cleaned and all the waste was disposed as per the guidelines of the staff.
