India’s architectural journey has been shaped by pioneering firms that have carried forward the vision of their founders while responding to the challenges of modern times. These firms, through decades of dedication and innovation, have not only influenced skylines but also defined the very character of the nation’s built environment. Their archives stand as living records of design evolution—valuable resources for students eager to understand the layers of architectural practice.

In this spirit, the sixth edition of Insiders with CP Kukreja Architects (CPKA) opened its doors to students, offering an immersive experience that bridged academic learning with professional practice.

Legacy of CP Kukreja Architects

Founded in 1969 by the late Ar. C.P. Kukreja, CPKA has grown into one of India’s most influential architectural practices. With over five decades of work spanning institutional, commercial, residential, and infrastructural projects both within the country and overseas, the firm has consistently blended traditional wisdom with modern technology. Its philosophy revolves around designing in harmony with the site, crafting spaces that are functional, beautiful, and environmentally responsible. This approach has earned CPKA recognition and awards in the fields of architecture and urbanism, reinforcing its place as a leader in the profession.

Highlights of the Program

The one-day Insiders program offered students an opportunity to look beyond drawings and enter the world of real practice. Sessions explored:

Ø  Architectural philosophy and the principles guiding CPKA’s design approach.

Ø  Design development and the significance of physical models in refining ideas.

Ø  Office management, providing insight into the organizational side of architecture.

Ø  Social responsibility, reminding students of the broader impact architecture has on communities and society at large.

A distinctive highlight was the exclusive access to CPKA’s archives, allowing participants to witness the evolution of design ideas through sketches, drawings, and models from over fifty years of practice. For many students, this was a rare chance to connect history with contemporary architectural thought.

Inspiring the Next Generation

The sixth edition of Insiders was more than just a program—it was a dialogue between experience and aspiration. By engaging with practicing architects, exploring archival works, and understanding the holistic nature of architectural practice, students were encouraged to view design not only as a profession but as a responsibility.

Through initiatives like these, CPKA continues to inspire future generations of architects, ensuring that the values of innovation, sustainability, and social consciousness remain at the heart of India’s architectural journey.
